The Albatross - a fine meal?

With a wingspan of more than 2 meters / 6½ feet, the Laysan Albatross is one of the largest of all flying birds. Other than returning to land to breed, these soaring birds spend all of their lives at sea. They feed on fish and sleep on the water or while gliding in the air (not recommended for pilots).

They are found throughout the northern oceans, and are common in the area of the Bering Sea and the Aleutian Islands. Archeologists have found hundreds of albatross bones in the remains of old shelters along those coasts, indicating that early Aleut and Eskimo hunters considered albatrosses a fine meal.
