MUSH! GEE! HAW!
All the Way from Yellowknife to Baffin Island!
02/04

The team sets out on a very long journey!

Six people and 31 huskies are mushing across one of the coldest places on Earth - the Canadian Arctic.

The leader of the team is Will Steger, a polar explorer who made the first unsupported dogsled expedition to the North Pole and the first dogsled journey across Antarctica. This trek is 4,800 km / 2,983 miles across Canada starting from Yellowknife, on to the Nunavut village of Baker Lake, then north to the Arctic Ocean, across the ice to Baffin Island - and then southward. They hope to reach Pangnirtung by June.

"Got m'parka on!"
Nobody has ever sledded across this vast, wind swept area in the middle of the winter before. Temperatures could drop to -60°C / -76°F (and that's not counting the wind chill)!

This trip is an educational exploration to bring attention to the way climate change is affecting the Inuit. These changes in the North will eventually also affect the South.

The expedition may encounter a direct problem with global warming. If spring comes early to the North, there may not be enough snow and ice to finish the journey on sleds.
