Is There Life on the Ice Planet?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be on Mars?

Devon Island, high in the Canadian Arctic, has land and glacial features like those found on Mars. It is mostly snow and ice free in summer, and daytime temperatures are similar to those of a Martian "summer" day. This makes it an ideal location to train for a mission to the "red planet".

Each summer, a crew, chosen from volunteers from around the world, serves 4 weeks in the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station. During this time they use the Mars-like polar desert of Devon Island to experiment with techniques required for human exploration of the distant planet.
